Karachi: The KSE100 Index experienced significant volatility during the trading session, opening on a positive note but ultimately closing 353 points lower at 167,089. Throughout the session, the Index reached an intraday high of 692 points and a low of 604 points. The market saw a decline in participation, with trading volumes dropping by approximately 28% compared to the previous session.
According to AKD Securities Limited, the Index is currently 15.7% above the lower Bollinger Band, with the bands being 63.05% narrower than their normal width. This suggests a period of subdued volatility when compared to historical levels. Such a contraction in the Bollinger Bands increases the potential for a sharp price movement in the near future, with a significant breakout becoming more likely if the compression persists. This narrow-band phase has now lasted for nine periods. Meanwhile, the Relative Strength Index (RSI), a momentum indicator, is reported at 37.92.
