Karachi: The benchmark KSE100 index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange surged significantly, climbing 4,347.09 points to close at 158,313.45, a 2.82% increase from the previous session. This rise was driven by notable performances from key players like Fauji Cement Company Limited (FCCL), Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Limited (PIBTL), and Systems Limited (SYS), which recorded the highest gains of the day.
According to JS Global, FCCL led the gainers with a 9.95% rise, closing at Rs 41.98. It was followed by PIBTL, which increased by 9.65% to Rs 15.45, and SYS, which saw an 8.07% increase to Rs 141.25. In contrast, the market's major losers included Colgate-Palmolive Pakistan Limited (COLG), which fell by 2.15% to Rs 1,074.08, and Service Industries Limited (SRVI), down by 1.95% to Rs 1,470.74.
Overall, the market capitalization of the Pakistan Stock Exchange rose by 2.52%, reaching Rs 17,584.60 billion or approximately US$62.98 billion. The total trading volume for the day was 612.36 million shares, valued at Rs 34.60 billion.
Regionally, Asian markets displayed varied trends, with Korea's KOSPI showing a 1.6% increase and Malaysia's KLSE rising by 0.5%. However, markets like Indonesia’s JKSE and India’s BSESN faced declines of 15.6% and 11.7% respectively, indicating a mixed response across the region amid global economic uncertainties.
