Karachi: The benchmark KSE100 index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a significant upturn, climbing by 1,021.40 points to close at 169,043.20, marking a 0.61% increase from the previous day. This surge reflects an improvement in market sentiment and increased investor confidence.
According to JS Global, several stocks contributed to the positive performance of the KSE100 index, with Pakistan Gas Company Limited (PGLC) leading the gainers, rising by 8.10% to close at 17.21. Other notable gainers included Ibrahim Fibres Limited (IBFL), which increased by 4.02% to 289.96, and Kohinoor Textile Mills Limited (KTML), which rose by 3.84% to 42.98. Despite the gains, the year-to-date figures for the calendar year 2026 and fiscal year 2027 show a decline of 2.88% and 6.24%, respectively.
The PSX market capitalization witnessed a growth of 0.67%, reaching Rs 18,847.35 billion, equivalent to US$ 67.98 billion. However, the market capitalization is still below the 52-week high of Rs 21,304.78 billion.
On the contrary, some stocks faced losses, with Ghani Global Holdings Limited (GHNI) experiencing the most significant drop, decreasing by 4.47% to 1,103.10. Maple Leaf Cement Factory Limited (MLCF) and Meezan Bank Limited (MEHT) also saw declines of 3.23% and 2.46%, respectively.
Trading activity was robust, with a total volume of 386.37 million shares and a total value of Rs 20.09 billion, equivalent to US$ 72.46 million. The top volume leader was Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL), with a trade volume of 83.12 million shares.
In the regional markets, mixed performances were observed. The Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index (SSEA) in China decreased by 0.4%, while the BSE Sensex in India remained stable. Taiwan's TWII index saw a 1.0% rise, indicating a positive trend in contrast to other regional markets.
The overall market dynamics indicate a positive outlook, although market observers remain cautious about the ongoing economic challenges facing the region.
