LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the office of the Deputy Commissioner have pledged to collaborate on resolving pressing issues affecting the business community, including parking and security concerns. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza and LCCI representatives, who emphasized the need for swift action.
According to a statement by Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Deputy Commissioner's visit to the LCCI was marked by discussions on critical matters such as parking congestion in key commercial areas, including Hall Road and Mall Road. LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad and Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry highlighted how the lack of parking facilities disrupts trade and inconveniences customers, and they proposed the construction of parking plazas, potentially involving the private sector, as a solution.
The LCCI also raised concerns about fire safety in Lahore's markets, pointing to past incidents that caused significant damage. They urged the installation of water hydrants and improved safety infrastructure to prevent future losses. Security in industrial and commercial areas was another priority, with calls for enhanced law enforcement and the installation of surveillance cameras.
The Deputy Commissioner praised the business community's efforts in supporting government initiatives to tackle smog and encroachments. LCCI's role in raising awareness and collaborating with organizations like the Environmental Protection Agency was acknowledged as vital.
LCCI further advocated for private sector involvement in administrative committees to ensure policies are practical and effective. They also briefed on the upcoming Lahore Shopping Festival, seeking the Deputy Commissioner's support for the event scheduled from January 31 to February 2.
Both parties expressed a commitment to continued cooperation to enhance Lahore's business environment, with LCCI President Shad expressing gratitude for the Deputy Commissioner's engagement in addressing these challenges.
