Lahore Embraces Urban Greenery with Inauguration of Miyawaki Forest

Lahore, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has marked a significant milestone in urban conservation with the inauguration of the Miyawaki Forest at LDA Avenue-1. The initiative is a part of the wider 'Plant for Pakistan' campaign aimed at increasing the green cover in urban areas to tackle pollution and enhance biodiversity.

According to Zameen.Com, LDA Director General (DG) Tahir Farooq led the planting ceremony in F Block of LDA Avenue-1, where 6,000 Miyawaki plants were introduced. The event saw the participation of LDA officials, the CEO of Synergy Ambreen Riaz Sapra, team members from Synergy, and children from LDA-affiliated schools. This collaborative effort highlights LDA's commitment to integrating community and educational aspects into environmental stewardship.

In addition to the plantation drive, DG Farooq took the opportunity to distribute free saplings among the residents of Avenue-1 and shed light on LDA’s broader goal to disseminate over 200,000 saplings throughout Lahore, with contributions from private housing schemes. The tree plantation drive continued at the Finance and Trade Centre and Emporium Mall in Johar Town, featuring members of the National Assembly, including Saif-ul-Malook Khokhar. During this phase of the campaign, Khokhar emphasized the environmental imperatives underscored by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, which include substantial sapling plantations across Lahore as a measure against the city’s rising pollution levels.
