Mari Petroleum Discovers New Oil Well in Sindh, Enhancing Pakistan’s Energy Resources

Karachi, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has announced a significant oil discovery at the Shawal-1 exploration well within its Mari Development and Production Lease (Mari D and PL) in Sindh Province. This discovery marks a notable achievement in the company’s ongoing exploration efforts and is expected to contribute positively to Pakistan's hydrocarbon production capacities.

According to Mari Petroleum Company Limited, the Shawal-1 well, which was spudded on January 27, 2024, reached a total depth of 1,136 meters into the Ghazij Formation. The well testing yielded promising results, producing approximately 1,040 barrels of oil per day with a 30-degree API gravity and 12% basic sediment and water (BS and W). Additionally, the well produced 2.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of associated gas. The well flowed with a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 953 Psi at a 32/64 inch choke size.

Mr. Faheem Haider, MD/CEO of MPCL, praised the efforts of the company’s geoscientists and engineers, whose expertise and adoption of new technologies made this discovery possible. He highlighted plans to further appraise the discovery to determine its full potential and explore development options.
