Master Plan Unveiled to Revamp Karachi’s Key Markets

KARACHI: Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced a comprehensive master plan focused on the reconstruction of roads and the replacement of sewerage lines in Jodia Bazaar and Kapra Market. This initiative aims to integrate traditional road materials with high-quality pavers to create a durable infrastructure in these vital commercial areas. The plan includes a defined timeline for completion, ensuring timely upgrades.

According to a statement by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mayor Wahab, during a visit to the markets, directed the deployment of essential municipal services, including a dedicated fire tender and sewerage suction vehicle. A coordination committee has been established to oversee the urban management tasks, with representatives from both the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and local markets.

Addressing traders' concerns, Mayor Wahab assured that the ongoing sewerage work at Merry Weather Tower would be expedited for completion before Ramadan. He also pledged that necessary road repairs in Jodia Bazaar and Kapra Market would not disrupt daily business as the work would be conducted at night.

In response to specific grievances, the mayor committed to replacing clogged sewerage lines and improving road conditions at Bombay Bazaar and Saleh Muhammad Street. Additionally, new parking facilities and organized overhead cabling are part of the improvements to ease congestion and enhance safety.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the administration's focus on urban development and urged collaboration with local traders for long-term infrastructural improvements. KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani expressed gratitude for the support from the mayor and the Sindh government, highlighting the potential economic boost for traders.

KCCI remains committed to working with authorities to resolve civic issues, aiming to enhance commercial efficiency and urban livability in Karachi's business districts.
