MCB Bank Reports Improved Profitability Driven by Asset Growth in 2QCY26

Karachi: MCB Bank Ltd. has reported a notable improvement in profitability for the second quarter of the calendar year 2026, driven by asset growth that outpaced the compression in net interest margins. The bank's net profit after tax reached PkR14.9 billion, marking a 2% increase year-on-year and a 13% rise quarter-on-quarter. Earnings per share stood at PkR12.5. Additionally, MCB Bank announced a cash dividend of PkR9.0 per share.

According to AKD Securities Limited, MCB's Net Interest Income (NII) for the quarter was PkR40.7 billion, reflecting a 2% year-on-year increase despite a 2% decline quarter-on-quarter. The annual increase in NII is attributed to asset growth, which offset the decrease in yields. However, the sequential decline was due to the early repricing of funding costs following a policy rate hike in April 2026.

The bank's deposits saw an 18% year-on-year increase and a 13% rise quarter-on-quarter, reaching PkR2.9 trillion as of June 2026. Advances grew by 15% year-on-year and remained flat quarter-on-quarter at PkR891 billion. Investments increased by 1% year-on-year and 8% quarter-on-quarter to PkR2.2 trillion.
