MCB Bank’s Earnings Increase Driven by Deposit Growth and Non-Interest Income

Karachi: MCB Bank Ltd. (MCB) reported a significant increase in its earnings for the third quarter of the calendar year 2026, as detailed in a financial results announcement made earlier today. The bank posted a net profit after tax (NPAT) of PKR 16.2 billion, translating to earnings per share (EPS) of PKR 13.7, reflecting a 7% year-on-year and a 9% quarter-on-quarter growth. This rise in earnings is attributed primarily to the expansion of its asset book, backed by a notable gain on the sale of securities and a reversal in provisioning.

According to AKD Securities Limited, MCB's net interest income (NII) for the third quarter was recorded at PKR 43.9 billion, marking a 7% increase from the previous year and an 8% increase from the previous quarter. This growth is largely due to the expansion of the bank's assets. The bank's deposits saw a 23% year-on-year increase, reaching PKR 3.1 trillion as of September 2026, with a 4% increase from the previous quarter. Advances grew by 18% year-on-year, remaining flat quarter-on-quarter at PKR 891 billion, while investments rose by 10% year-on-year and 6% quarter-on-quarter to reach PKR 2.4 trillion.

Alongside the financial results, MCB announced a cash payout of PKR 9.0 per share, bringing the total payout for the first nine months of the calendar year 2026 to PKR 27.0 per share. AKD Securities Limited has maintained a 'BUY' stance on MCB, with a target price of PKR 544.0 per share by December 2026, citing the bank's asset growth facilitated by low-cost deposits, robust cost-efficiency, and a well-positioned investment portfolio.
