Karachi: The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies Pakistan to create a National Cloud Data Center, marking a significant advancement in Pakistan’s digital infrastructure capabilities.
According to National Bank of Pakistan announcement issued on 09 October 2024, the MoU was signed during the Huawei Connect 2024 Global Conference. This new venture aims to enhance NBP’s digital services by establishing a Tier-3 certified data center, which will provide state-of-the-art cloud services. Huawei will contribute dedicated teams to ensure the project’s timely implementation and will provide ongoing operational and maintenance support. Furthermore, NBP representatives will benefit from hands-on training and documentation to facilitate smooth integration into the bank’s operations.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Amin Manji, Chief Information Technology Group (ITG) at NBP, and Mr. Ethan Sun, CEO of Huawei Technologies Pakistan, in the presence of notable officials including Mr. Rehmat Ali Hasnie, President of NBP, Mr. Riaz Hussain, Group Chief, IFRG, and senior Huawei executives Mr. David Wang, Mr. Derek Hao, and Mr. Ethan Sun.
Mr. Rehmat Ali Hasnie commented on the collaboration, stating, “This partnership is a testament to our commitment to adopting advanced technologies that enhance our operational efficiency.” Mr. Amin Manji also highlighted the significance of Huawei’s expertise in transforming the bank’s data management capabilities and ensuring system reliability.
This strategic partnership between NBP and Huawei is set to bring robust improvements to Pakistan’s banking sector by leveraging cutting-edge technology to boost efficiency and security.
