Karachi: The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has been honored with the prestigious Disability Inclusion Award 2024 by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), marking a historic achievement as the first bank from Pakistan to win this recognition. Competing against leading banks from across Asia and the Pacific, NBP has distinguished itself as a frontrunner in promoting disability inclusion both locally and globally.
According to National Bank of Pakistan announcement issued on 05 October 2024, the award was received by Mr. Mirza Muhammad Asim Baig, Group Head of Human Resource Management Group (HRMG), during a ceremony held in Singapore. The bank was celebrated for its significant contributions to creating a barrier-free work environment, establishing inclusive policies, and empowering employees with disabilities, which underscore its commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace.
NBP has implemented several key initiatives that contributed to its winning the award, including the employment of 169 individuals with disabilities, the highest number in Pakistan’s banking sector. The bank has also developed model branches equipped with full accessibility features, along with inclusive policies and training programs designed to integrate diversity and inclusion into its core operations.
These efforts represent NBP’s ongoing dedication to setting standards in disability inclusion and enhancing the professional lives of its employees with disabilities.
