National Resources Limited Secures License to Explore Minerals in Balochistan’s Chagai District

Karachi, National Resources Limited (NRL) has been granted an exploration lease spanning 500 Sq. km in the Chagai district of Balochistan. With the potential to draw substantial investments in the mining sector and create significant employment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan, this project indicates a marked progress for the nation's mineral exploration activities. Additionally, NRL aims to refine the mined products within Pakistan, contingent upon feasibility, before pursuing exports.

According to a news release by National Resources Limited, the company, a subsidiary of YB Pakistan Limited, Reliance Commodities (Pvt.) Limited, and Liberty Mills Limited, applied for the lease in early 2022 and has since met all legal requirements for its acquisition. In preparation for the exploration, NRL has secured necessary clearances from both the Environmental and the Forest and Wildlife departments. The company's board has approved the exploration plan and is in the process of recruiting resources to commence the on-ground activities.

An NRL representative highlighted the company's intention to predominantly employ individuals from Pakistan, placing a special focus on hiring from Balochistan. To ensure the exploration activities adhere to international standards, a prominent foreign consultancy firm will be engaged. A primary task for this consultancy will be imparting training to local engineers, enabling them to oversee exploration endeavours independently in the future.

NRL anticipates that this lease award will inspire other domestic companies in Pakistan to delve into the mining sector, a sector that has been identified as pivotal in rejuvenating the national economy. In line with the vision laid out by the SIFC, NRL aspires to ensure that mining activities and subsequent exports contribute a minimum of 5% to the country's GDP. Expressing gratitude towards the Government of Balochistan and the SIFC for the lease award, NRL conveyed its commitment to fulfilling this vision.

In addition to its exploration endeavours, NRL is implementing an extensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for local communities in the vicinity. Already underway is the construction of a prototype NRL compound, which will feature amenities such as a school, play area, clinic, and a RO plant. The company emphasizes that the success of their mining operations is intrinsically tied to the well-being and direct economic benefits extended to the local populace.
