Nestle Pakistan Releases 2023 Sustainability Report, Emphasizing Climate and Community Initiatives

Lahore, Nestle Pakistan has unveiled its 2023 Creating Shared Value (CSV) Report titled 'Powering a Sustainable Tomorrow,' which outlines its comprehensive sustainability efforts aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The report details the company's initiatives across various domains including climate action, sustainable plastics, regenerative agriculture, renewable energy, and water regeneration.

According to Nestle Pakistan Limited, the report highlights the significant strides the company has made in integrating sustainability into its core business practices. Jason Avanceña, CEO of Nestle Pakistan, emphasized the company's commitment to being a "force for good" by reducing its carbon footprint, advancing towards a waste-free future, and supporting community empowerment through various initiatives.

One of the key achievements noted in the report includes the operation of 2.5MW and 2.6MW solar power plants at Nestlé’s factories in Kabirwala and Sheikhupura, which are part of the company’s renewable energy strategy. Additionally, Sheikh Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, highlighted Nestlé’s contribution to the Clean Gilgit-Baltistan Project (CGBP). This project has donated essential waste management equipment and installed facilities made from recycled materials at major tourist spots in Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu, managing over 2600 tons of plastic packaging waste in 2023.

The report also covers Nestlé's efforts in water conservation and the promotion of regenerative agriculture practices. Through its Caring for Water – Pakistan initiative, the company has implemented drip irrigation on over 300 acres and installed smart soil moisture sensors to enhance agricultural efficiency and sustainability.

In terms of community outreach and social impact, Nestlé’s ongoing Nestle for Healthier Kids (N4HK) program continues to raise nutritional awareness among children, reaching 2300 teachers and 360,000 children to date. Furthermore, the Nestle BISP Rural Women Sales Program, in collaboration with the Akhuwat Foundation, has expanded its reach, enabling nearly 3000 rural women across 28 districts in Pakistan to achieve financial empowerment through direct sales opportunities.

Nestle Pakistan’s report demonstrates its proactive approach to sustainability, focusing on environmental stewardship and enhancing the well-being of communities it serves. The company remains committed to working with various stakeholders to nourish future generations and uphold its pledge to the planet’s health and sustainability.
