Khairpur: The Sawan South Joint Venture has announced a significant gas discovery at the Akhiro-1 exploratory well in the district of Khairpur, Sindh Province. This joint venture, which includes major stakeholders such as the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL), successfully extracted gas from the Lower Gour B Reservoir Sand, marking a key advancement in the region’s energy resources.
According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, “The Akhiro-1 well, initiated on June 15, 2024, reached a final depth of 12,442 feet. It yielded a promising output of 10 million standard cubic feet per day of gas, tested at a wellhead flowing pressure of 4000 psi.” This discovery is particularly notable as it plays a crucial role in de-risking further exploration in the Sawan South Block and is expected to significantly bolster the country’s energy security through increased access to indigenous hydrocarbon resources.
This new gas find not only enhances the hydrocarbon reserves base of Pakistan but also supports ongoing efforts to meet the nation’s energy demands with domestically sourced fuels, contributing to a more secure and self-reliant energy future.
