Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) is initiating significant infrastructure projects to improve road connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion. The extension of the Margalla Highway, linking it directly to the M-1 Motorway, stands as a notable development. Alongside this, two new bypasses are planned in Lahore to streamline traffic flow: one on the Kala Shah Kaku-Multan Road and another connecting Sagian to Ravi Bridge.

According to Zameen.Com, the Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has proposed the integration of electronic toll plazas across highways to enhance road travel efficiency. These automated systems will use electronic tags for toll collection, aiming to eliminate long queues and decrease travel time by allowing vehicles to pass through without stopping. This initiative aligns with global trends in transport automation, promising smoother commutes and more sustainable road management practices.

In addition, the NHA is concentrating on expanding the Lahore-Sialkot and Kharian-Islamabad Motorways from four lanes to six. This upgrade, directed by the minister, is intended to accommodate expected increases in traffic volumes and ensure safer and faster travel for commuters.
