ISLAMABAD: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has entered into a partnership with Canada's Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. to implement advanced technology aimed at boosting output from Pakistan's heavy crude oil fields. The agreement focuses on deploying Passive Energy Tool technology to optimize production from the country's heavy oil wells.
According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, the contract signing ceremony occurred at OGDC Headquarters in Islamabad, attended by Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan, and OGDC's Managing Director and CEO, Ahmed Hayat Lak. Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. President and CEO, Brian Herman, participated virtually, alongside senior representatives from OGDC, the Canadian High Commission, and Synergetic.
The agreement outlines the deployment of Passive Energy Tool technology by Synergetic to improve flow assurance in highly viscous crude oil wells. This technology aims to enhance fluid characteristics, reduce workover frequency, minimize well downtime, decrease operating costs, and lower the usage of production chemicals.
Ahmed Hayat Lak, MD/CEO of OGDC, emphasized the company's commitment to adopting innovative technologies to tackle production challenges in heavy oil reservoirs. He noted that OGDC is actively seeking opportunities with global technology providers to improve production efficiency and optimize recovery from mature and technically challenging fields. He expressed confidence that the new technology would significantly reduce workover requirements and operating costs while enhancing production performance.
Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan highlighted the significance of the cooperation between Pakistan and Canada in the energy and critical minerals sectors. He expressed optimism that the deployment of the technology would contribute to the advancement of Pakistan's upstream oil industry.
This collaboration is a further step in OGDC's strategy to leverage advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency, enhance production, and support the sustainable development of Pakistan's oil and gas sector through international partnerships.
