OGDCL Announces New Gas Discovery at Chak 202-1 Well in Rahim Yar Khan

Rahim Yar Khan: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant gas discovery at the Chak 202-1 exploratory well in the Mari East Block of Punjab Province. This discovery, which marks the second consecutive find in the area, is seen as a major step towards enhancing Pakistan’s energy resources.

According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, the Chak 202-1 well, which began drilling on June 29, 2024, achieved a final depth of 1956.50 meters. The exploratory efforts, led by OGDCL’s in-house expertise, yielded a gas flow of 6.15 million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day (MMSCFD) from the Sui Main Limestone formation, tested through a 32/64″ choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 1340 psi.

The discovery is part of OGDCL’s robust exploration strategy aimed at utilizing and enhancing the hydrocarbon potential of the Mari East Block. This new find not only expands the company’s hydrocarbon reserves but also plays a crucial role in addressing the ongoing energy demand-supply challenges in the country.
