Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has commenced commercial production of tight gas from the Nur West Well-1 in Sujawal district, Sindh, marking a significant advancement in Pakistan’s energy sector.
According to Zameen.Com, the Nur West Well-1, which taps into hard-to-extract tight gas reserves, is currently producing 1.5 million cubic feet of gas per day. This new source of gas is now being channeled into the network of the Sui Southern Gas Company, enhancing the gas distribution across Pakistan. The well reached a depth of nearly 3 kilometers, and despite initial extraction challenges, OGDCL successfully employed hydraulic fracturing techniques to begin production.
This development is part of OGDCL’s broader strategy to bolster Pakistan’s energy resources by focusing on tight gas. The company, owning and operating the project entirely, has also indicated promising outcomes from additional exploratory efforts in the Kohat district, suggesting potential expansions in gas production in the near future.
