Karachi: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the early commercial production of tight gas from the Nur West Well-1, marking a significant step in enhancing Pakistan’s national gas supply through the integration of new resources.
According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, the Nur West Well-1, located in the Sujawal district of Sindh, is producing 1.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas with a wellhead pressure of 1050 PSI from the Lower Guru formation. This new production has already been incorporated into the network of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL), thereby bolstering the existing infrastructure.
The well reached a depth of 2,975 meters and initially encountered a tight formation which conventional testing failed to exploit successfully. OGDCL then applied hydraulic fracturing techniques to make the well commercially viable. This initiative is part of OGDCL’s broader strategy to develop tight gas potentials, which aligns with its commitment to meet the increasing energy needs of the country and to support sustainable development.
