ISLAMABAD: The oil and gas sector reported a mixture of outcomes in June 2026, with notable increases in production but declines in exploratory drilling activity. Hydrocarbon production rose significantly, with oil and gas outputs increasing by 26% and 15% year-on-year, respectively. Month-on-month, both oil and gas production rose by 2%, primarily due to disruptions in the supply of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG).
According to JS Global, while production levels climbed, the sector recorded a single hydrocarbon discovery at Bobi Deep, operated by OGDC, and a dry well at Taban East in Gambat South, operated by PPL. Despite the positive production figures, exploratory efforts saw a downturn, with a 27% decline in exploratory well drilling and a 9% decline in development well drilling. Conversely, seismic acquisition showed significant growth, with 2D and 3D seismic acquisition increasing by 38% and 188% month-on-month, respectively.
