PACRA Maintains Stability Rating for BMA Money Market Fund

Karachi: The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency Limited (PACRA) has affirmed the stability rating of the BMA Money Market Fund (BMA-MMF), which is characterized by a low-risk investment profile. The fund aims to deliver competitive returns while ensuring high liquidity and minimal risk through investments primarily in short-term money market instruments and high-quality fixed income securities.

According to The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency Limited, the fund's assets under management (AUM) totaled approximately PKR 2.39 billion as of September 26, showing a decrease from PKR 3.22 billion in May 2026. The asset allocation strategy of the fund involves about 64.66% investment in T-Bills, 29.98% in placements with banks and development finance institutions, and 5.09% in cash, with the remaining 0.27% in other assets, including receivables. This allocation supports the fund's liquidity by focusing on short-term sovereign securities and bank placements.

The fund's credit quality profile indicates that 64.8% of its assets are in government securities, followed by 20% in AA+ rated avenues, 10% in AA-rated instruments, and 5.1% in AAA-rated avenues. This reflects a strong credit quality with significant exposure to sovereign securities. As of the end of September 2026, the weighted average maturity (WAM) of the fund stood at 36 days, with a duration of 37 days, indicating limited interest rate sensitivity and low maturity risk. Despite this, the fund's unit holding pattern shows high concentration, with the top 10 investors holding around 80% of the total, posing a potential risk of redemption pressure.

Performance-wise, the fund achieved a return of 10.6% as of September 2026, marginally below its benchmark return of 11.3% but in line with the peer average return of 10.6%. Looking ahead, the fund plans to adhere to broad money market stipulations, balancing yield optimization with disciplined risk management practices.
