Lahore: Adeel Munawar, the Commercial Ambassador of the Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI), has underscored the importance of enhancing educational cooperation between Pakistan and China as a crucial step toward developing a skilled workforce, advancing agricultural modernization, and improving Pakistan's position in the global knowledge economy. He emphasized that investing in education, vocational training, research, and innovation is fundamental to achieving sustainable economic growth, given Pakistan's significant demographic advantage with over 60 percent of its population under the age of 30.
According to Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, agriculture, which contributes approximately 22 percent to Pakistan's GDP and employs about one-third of the country's labor force, remains a central pillar of the economy. Mr. Munawar stressed that boosting agricultural productivity through technology transfer and scientific education is vital for ensuring food security and enhancing exports. He noted that recent agreements signed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif include protocols and memorandums aimed at strengthening agricultural cooperation between the two nations.
Adeel Munawar also highlighted existing initiatives under which 1,000 young Pakistani agricultural graduates are receiving advanced training in China in various fields such as biotechnology and climate-smart agriculture. These efforts are expected to bring modern farming techniques and advanced research practices to Pakistan. Furthermore, he pointed out that stronger academic partnerships could facilitate joint research, faculty exchanges, and technology commercialization, aligning educational curricula with industry needs to bridge the gap between education and employment.
He emphasized the role of digital transformation in integrating artificial intelligence and precision agriculture into academia, which would prepare young professionals for emerging industries. Concluding his remarks, Mr. Munawar stated that the educational collaboration between Pakistan and China represents a strategic investment in human capital, aimed at strengthening innovation, workforce productivity, and sustainable agricultural development, thereby reinforcing the enduring bilateral partnership.
