Karachi: Pakistan's economic landscape could see significant changes following the successful conclusion of the First Pakistan Economic Summit 2026, organized by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the United Business Group. The summit, which took place in Islamabad, has been hailed as a unifying platform that brought together business leaders, economists, and stakeholders from diverse sectors to discuss a collective economic agenda for the country.

According to Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, Mian Zahid Hussain, a prominent figure in Pakistan's business community, emphasized the importance of district-level autonomy in achieving sustainable economic development. He argued that centralized planning and resource allocation hinder balanced growth and that empowering districts and union councils with administrative and financial authority could pave the way for improved governance and economic prosperity.

The summit served as a national forum where participants from all provinces and territories discussed challenges and opportunities facing local industries, export growth, and investment. Mian Zahid Hussain stressed that districts should not only be empowered but also constitutionally protected to ensure consistent and effective governance. The proposal includes appointing District Economic Commissioners to facilitate local economic activities and coordinate with federal and provincial governments.
