Karachi: Local production of mobile phones in Pakistan experienced a significant increase in July 2026, with a 9 percent rise compared to the same month last year, according to the latest data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). The nation’s mobile phone companies manufactured or assembled 3.90 million units during the month, marking a 102 percent month-over-month increase.

According to JS Global, the sharp monthly recovery is attributed to a rebound in consumer demand following deferred purchases ahead of the fiscal year 2027 budget, which bolstered local assembly efforts. However, when looking at the cumulative figures for the first seven months of 2026, local manufacturing and assembly saw a slight decline of 5 percent year-over-year, with 17.00 million units produced compared to 17.83 million units in the same period of 2025.

The report also highlighted a substantial decrease in mobile phone imports, which fell by 35 percent year-over-year and 83 percent month-over-month, totaling only 0.11 million units in July. This decline in imports meant that local manufacturing met 97 percent of Pakistan's mobile phone demand during the month, a significant increase from 75 percent in May 2026. For the first seven months of 2026, local production accounted for 86 percent of the demand.
