Pakistan Sees a 10% Increase in Local Mobile Phone Manufacturing in May 2026

Karachi: Local mobile phone manufacturing in Pakistan increased by 10% in May 2026 compared to the previous month, with companies producing 2 million units, as reported by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). This rise follows 1.81 million units manufactured in April 2026.

According to JS Global, the cumulative manufacturing and assembly of cell phones in the first five months of 2026 saw a year-on-year decline of 7%, with figures reaching 11.17 million units, down from 12.05 million units in the same period of 2025. The report highlighted that the year-on-year comparison for May 2026 is not feasible due to the cumulative publication of April and May 2025 data.

In the first five months of 2026, local production of VGO Tel, Tecno, and Samsung phones increased by 29%, 24%, and 7% year-on-year, respectively. Conversely, Vivo, Itel, and Infinix experienced production declines of 30%, 29%, and 19% year-on-year, respectively. The country met 86% of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly in May 2026, up from 83% in April 2026, with a five-month total standing at 85%.
