KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed a decline in key indices on Tuesday, as the KSE30 and KSE100 indices closed lower by 0.75% and 0.78%, respectively. This downturn comes as several companies showed varied performances, with some gaining and others losing, impacting the market capitalization and overall trading volume.
According to JS Global, the KSE100 index fell by 1,332.49 points to settle at 168,636.84, while the KSE30 index dropped by 381.60 points, ending at 50,262.67. Market capitalization also saw a decrease, with a 0.80% drop in the Pakistan Stock Exchange's market cap, now valued at 18,776.37 billion rupees, equivalent to 67.76 billion US dollars. The decline is part of a broader trend, with the year-to-date change showing a 4.64% reduction.
On the positive side, SSOM emerged as the top gainer, with a 7.62% increase in its price, closing at 506.29 rupees. PGLC and IBFL also experienced gains, with prices rising by 3.53% and 1.38%, respectively. Conversely, NPL was the leading loser, with its price dropping by 3.34% to 59.12 rupees. HUMNL and JVDC also recorded losses, declining by 3.05% and 2.89%, respectively.
The trading session saw a total volume of 548.38 million shares traded, amounting to a value of 17.05 billion rupees, or 61.54 million US dollars. Volume leaders included KOSM, FNEL, and CNERGY, with significant trading activities observed in these stocks.
Regional markets displayed mixed trends, with Korea’s KOSPI index experiencing a 1.9% increase, while indices in India, Indonesia, and Malaysia faced declines. The fluctuations in the global markets reflect ongoing economic challenges and investor sentiments.
