Pakistan Stock Exchange Records Gains Amid Market Volatility

Karachi: In a day marked by notable trading activity, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) saw its benchmark indices, the KSE-100 and KSE-30, close higher on Wednesday. The KSE-100 index rose by 1,225.99 points, a 0.80% increase, ending at 153,966.36, while the KSE-30 gained 472.92 points, representing a 1.02% increase to close at 46,696.53. The trading session witnessed a total volume of 375.34 million shares, with a total value of 22.98 billion rupees, approximately 82.29 million USD.

According to JS Global, the market's upward momentum was supported by gains in several blue-chip stocks. ENGRO Corporation emerged as a top gainer, advancing by 6.52% to close at 278.92 rupees. Other significant gainers included Hinoon Laboratories, which rose by 4.31% to 903.98 rupees, and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), which increased by 3.62% to 53.59 rupees. The market's capitalization experienced a daily increase of 0.50%, reaching 17,152.44 billion rupees, equivalent to 61.43 billion USD.

Meanwhile, some stocks faced downward pressure. Kohat Cement Company Limited (KOHC) fell by 4.79% to 80.05 rupees, and Avanceon Limited (AVN) dropped by 3.64% to 30.95 rupees. Despite these declines, the overall market sentiment remained positive, buoyed by increased investor interest and strategic buying.

The PSX's year-to-date performance for the fiscal year 2026 reflected a robust growth trend, with the KSE-100 and KSE-30 indices posting gains of 22.56% and 22.39%, respectively. However, the calendar year-to-date figures showed a decline of 11.54% for the KSE-100 and 12.39% for the KSE-30, indicating a volatile market environment over the year.

Regionally, other Asian markets such as India's BSESN and Korea's KOSPI also recorded gains, rising by 1.9% and 2.7%, respectively. In contrast, Malaysia's KLSE and Taiwan's TWII experienced slight declines of 0.7% and 0.3%.

The PSX's performance reflects a mixed but optimistic outlook, driven by domestic economic factors and global market trends. Investors continue to monitor developments closely as the market navigates the complexities of the global financial landscape.
