Pakistan Stock Exchange Witnesses Decline in Key Indices Amid Market Volatility

Karachi: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) saw a decrease in its key indices, KSE30 and KSE100, with both experiencing significant drops. The KSE30 index fell by 142.15 points to settle at 49,841.71, while the KSE100 index dropped by 352.63 points, closing at 167,089.28. This decline reflects a downward trend of 0.28% and 0.21% respectively.

According to JS Global, the market capitalization of the PSX also experienced a decline, with a day-on-day change of -0.15%, reaching Rs 18,569.13 billion. In terms of US dollars, the market capitalization stands at $67.04 billion. The year-to-date figures for the current fiscal year show a decrease of 7.21% for KSE30 and 7.33% for KSE100.

Among the gainers, TPLRF1 led the charts with a price increase of 7.65%, followed by PABC with a 5.16% rise, and SSOM with a 2.25% increase. On the other hand, PGLC was the top loser, with its price falling by 9.97%, while JDWS and SCBPL also saw declines of 4.01% and 2.67% respectively.

Trading volume on the PSX was robust, with a total of 309.41 million shares traded, amounting to a total value of Rs 15.44 billion. The most active stocks included CNERGY, PRL, and TREET, with significant trading volumes.

In comparison, regional markets also showed varied performances. The Indian BSESN index rose by 1.2%, while Indonesia's JKSE improved by 1.0%. However, other regional indices like China's SSEA and Korea's KOSPI remained unchanged.

Despite the decline, the PSX continues to maintain a strong position with a 52-week high of Rs 21,304.78 billion in market capitalization, suggesting potential for recovery in the future.
