Islamabad: The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) extended its losing streak against major international currencies, according to data released by the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP) on August 21, 2025. The PKR depreciated against the US Dollar, closing at a buying rate of PKR 283.60 and a selling rate of PKR 284.21.
The Euro also saw gains against the PKR, reaching PKR 329.28 for buying and PKR 330.87 for selling. The British Pound climbed to PKR 380.95 and PKR 382.73 for buying and selling, respectively.
The Japanese Yen strengthened to PKR 1.89 and PKR 1.94 for buying and selling. The PKR also weakened against regional currencies. The UAE Dirham rose to PKR 77.16 and PKR 77.40 for buying and selling. The Saudi Riyal appreciated to PKR 75.44 for buying and PKR 75.65 for selling.
Interbank rates reflected a similar trend with the PKR closing at PKR 281.92 and 282.12 for buying and selling respectively. The continued depreciation of the PKR raises concerns about its impact on the Pakistani economy, potentially affecting import costs and inflation.
