Karachi: Pakistan's textile industry must pivot from the export of raw materials to value-added products to enhance its global market presence and increase the country's export share, according to Haroon Akhtar Khan, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production. Speaking at a ceremony organized by the All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, Khan emphasized that the development of the textile sector is crucial for the nation's economic identity and growth.
According to Union of Small and Medium Enterprises, Khan stressed the importance of the National Industrial Policy, which aims to boost production, investment, productivity, industrial competitiveness, and exports. The government is actively working to create a favorable environment for industrial growth by removing regulatory barriers and simplifying business processes. This initiative is designed to encourage investment, innovation, and the establishment of new industries, while also expanding existing ones, thereby generating new employment opportunities and increasing domestic production.
Khan highlighted the need for Pakistan's textile industry to integrate quality, modern technology, design, and sustainability into its competitive strategy. The global market now demands more than just low costs; quality, sustainability, product traceability, and timely delivery have become crucial factors. Pakistan's textile ecosystem, which ranges from cotton production to ready-made garments, holds potential for increased productivity and competitiveness through investment in modern machinery, technology, and skilled manpower. The focus must shift towards exporting finished and value-added products to ensure long-term growth and sustainability in the global market.
