KARACHI: The Pakistan Chemicals & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA) has called on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to grant a 30-day extension for filing Income Tax Returns. The request follows persistent issues with the IRIS portal, which has reportedly been malfunctioning, creating difficulties for tax practitioners and taxpayers.

According to Pakistan Chemicals and Dyes Merchants Association, PCDMA Chairman Salim Valimuhammad addressed a letter to FBR Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial, highlighting the challenges faced by those attempting to file their returns by the September 30, 2026 deadline. The issues with the IRIS portal have been ongoing despite numerous complaints and representations made to the PRAL team responsible for the portal’s operation.

Valimuhammad stated that the portal's dysfunction has persisted for over a week, hindering tax practitioners from meeting their statutory obligations. Efforts to resolve the technical problems have not been successful, prompting the PCDMA to seek a deadline extension to October 30, 2026. This extension is deemed necessary to alleviate the burden on the tax community.

The PCDMA chairman expressed his appreciation for the FBR's attention to these issues and remains hopeful that the extension will be granted to ease the process for affected parties.
