Lahore: Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has expressed its strong support for the Baluchistan Government's initiative to develop a low-cost housing project for Gwadar's fishing community. The initiative, aimed at providing affordable housing to low-income fishermen, is described as a significant step towards social welfare and the success of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The provincial government has begun demarcating land for the project, which will cost an estimated Rs2.44 billion and cover over 200 acres allocated by the Government of Baluchistan. The project, located near Jiwani and Awaran Avenues close to the Gwadar Sports Complex, will feature approximately 2,970 residential plots for eligible fishermen and their families.
According to Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nazir Hussain, President of PCJCCI, stated that the initiative demonstrates the government's commitment to ensuring the benefits of CPEC reach the local population. He noted that secure and affordable housing for fishermen will improve their quality of life and contribute to sustainable economic growth. Hussain acknowledged the Government of Baluchistan for prioritizing the welfare of the fishing community, which holds a significant role in Gwadar's economy.
Amir Ali, Vice President of PCJCCI, highlighted that adequate housing is essential for socio-economic development, improving education, healthcare, and living standards for families. He emphasized that planned residential communities will enhance Gwadar's infrastructure and support its development as a regional trade and logistics hub. Adeel Munawar, Commercial Ambassador of PCJCCI, pointed out that the project illustrates how CPEC's infrastructure development can lead to tangible social and economic benefits, particularly in the fisheries sector.
Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General of PCJCCI, expressed confidence that such development projects will uplift local livelihoods, strengthen public trust in CPEC, and bolster Gwadar's position as a key maritime and trade hub.
