Karachi: The Federal Government has approved PKR 50 billion for Sindh’s emergency housing project to aid communities impacted by recent floods, News source on November 7. This funding decision was finalized during a recent Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting.
According to Zameen.Com, the allocation is part of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and exceeds the initial PKR 30 billion proposed by the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives for the fiscal year 2024-25. The housing initiative, which received approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in June, has an estimated total cost of PKR 296 billion. ECNEC has recommended a phased funding plan, allocating PKR 30 billion for the current fiscal year and an additional PKR 20 billion for 2025-26.
The PKR 30 billion designated for 2024-25 is already listed under Demand No. 120 in the Ministry of Planning’s development budget and is prepared for transfer. With the ECC’s approval, the Finance Division is authorized to release these funds to the Sindh government. This allocation is set to support urgent flood relief efforts and complement other PSDP-backed provincial projects.
