PMI Highlights Innovation and Technology for a Smoke-Free Future at Abu Dhabi Event

Islamabad: Philip Morris International (PMI) recently hosted the 10th edition of its 'Technovation' event in Abu Dhabi, emphasizing the role of technology and innovation in promoting a smoke-free future. The event convened PMI senior management and policy experts to explore the impact of science-driven tobacco harm reduction and non-combustible alternatives.

According to Philip Morris International, the event served as a platform for discussions on the potential of smoke-free alternatives to help adult smokers transition away from cigarettes. It also highlighted the importance of a balanced regulatory framework to support innovation and social impact. PMI leaders and scientists presented evidence supporting the effectiveness of smoke-free products, such as oral smokeless, vapor, and heated tobacco products, in reducing smoking risks.

Ali Takesh, Managing Director of Philip Morris Pakistan Limited, underscored the global urgency for tobacco harm reduction measures, citing successful strategies from countries like Sweden and Japan. PMI President Fred de Wilde called for collective action, including supportive regulatory frameworks, to encourage the adoption of better alternatives to cigarettes.

The comprehensive agenda included presentations on PMI's results and scientific findings, discussions on technology's role in societal progress, and interactive exhibition tours showcasing innovation and sustainability initiatives. The event also addressed challenges like misinformation, advocating for collaboration among governments, healthcare professionals, NGOs, and public health advocates to make smoke-free products more accessible.
