Karachi: Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) kicked off World Investor Week 2024 with a ceremonial gong ringing on Thursday, under the banner of the World Federation of Exchanges and the International Organisation of Securities Commission. The event, themed ‘Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy,’ aims to enhance financial education and investor protection through various activities scheduled for October 7-13.
According to Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited, the ceremony saw the participation of key figures such as Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Chairperson of PSX; Mr. Nadeem Naqvi, Acting CEO; and Mr. Akif Saeed, Chairman of the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). The gathering included members from securities firms, asset management companies, and the Pakistan Stock Brokers Association among others, highlighting the collective effort to promote financial literacy.
Dr. Shamshad Akhtar emphasized the ongoing commitment to financial education, noting that over 80 institutions nationwide engaged in financial literacy sessions last fiscal year. These efforts reached more than 15,000 individuals, including students and corporate employees, through both in-person and digital platforms like webinars.
Chairman Akif Saeed commented on the potential of Pakistan’s young population and digital advancements to transform the capital market landscape. He praised the initiative for fostering an environment where investors are better equipped to make informed decisions and urged continued efforts to build financial literacy as a foundation for economic growth.
The event not only marked the commencement of a week dedicated to investor education but also aligned with broader efforts to improve financial inclusion and market accessibility through technological enhancements, such as the streamlined online account opening process highlighted by Mr. Nadeem Naqvi.
