Punjab Cabinet Cuts Islamabad Electricity Rates, Introduces Solar Initiative

Lahore: The Punjab cabinet has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs for residents of Islamabad, alongside the introduction of a solar panel initiative aimed at promoting sustainable energy. The decision, revealed during the 14th provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, extends the Rs14 per unit price cut, previously available to Punjab residents for August and September, to over 150,000 consumers in the federal capital.

According to Zameen.Com, the meeting under Chief Minister Nawaz’s leadership also marked the approval of Punjab’s first-ever Climate-Resilient Vision and Action Plan for 2024. This strategic framework focuses on mitigating environmental challenges across the province. Further decisions taken at the meeting included the establishment of the Punjab Zakat and Usher Council and the Baitul Mal Council. The cabinet also authorized the lease of state land for the construction of Al-Shifa Hospital, dedicated to eye disease treatment, and approved the Punjab Public Service Commission’s report for 2023.
