Punjab CM and UK Office Collaborate on Lahore’s Sustainable Development

Lahore, In a significant move towards sustainable urban development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has led discussions with the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to implement sustainable development models in Lahore. The meeting, focused on leveraging socio-economic data for effective government planning and enhancing service delivery and governance, marks a pivotal step in Lahore's journey towards sustainable growth and development.

According to Zameen.Com, the collaboration between Punjab's government and the FCDO aims to address a wide range of issues, including health, education, waste management, climate change, and the provision of clean drinking water. One of the key strategies outlined during the meeting was to improve local government revenue by 50%, a move that could significantly impact the region's ability to fund and sustain various development projects.

Moreover, the meeting addressed the pressing need for improvements in rural health centres by proposing the deployment of mobile health units, and emphasized the importance of implementing sustainable waste management practices to tackle the challenges of garbage collection and landfill sites. In the education sector, the commitment to enhancing the quality of education, teacher training, and providing basic facilities to schools by 2018 was reiterated.

CM Maryam highlighted the government's dedication to short-medium, and long-term development projects that aim to increase school enrolment, improve education quality, and upgrade infrastructure. The meeting saw the participation of various officials, including Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Former Senator Pervaiz Rashid, and School Education Provincial Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, demonstrating the broad support and collaborative effort towards Lahore's sustainable development.
