Sialkot: The Punjab Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, is set to launch multiple affordable housing projects aimed at providing housing solutions for the marginalized communities in Sialkot. These initiatives include the Flagship Affordable Housing Project, the Green and Affordable Housing Design Competition, and the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar (ACAG) Program, all scheduled to begin on August 14, 2024.

According to The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, during a meeting held at their premises, the Director General of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA), Mr. Saif Anwar Jappa, outlined the details of the government's plans. He mentioned that the World Bank has committed USD 280 million to construct 37,000 low-cost housing units across Punjab, starting with Sialkot. This project will also feature an international competition to design these units on a 208-acre site near the city center.

The President of the Chamber, Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Malik, praised the efforts of the Punjab Government and the PHATA for their initiative in making affordable housing accessible amid rising inflation pressures. He highlighted the dual benefits of the projects: providing homes for the underprivileged and establishing dedicated labor colonies for Sialkot’s workforce.

Further, Mr. Jappa emphasized the strategic importance of these projects in enhancing the living standards of low-income families and detailed plans for a labor colony on Pasrur Road, which would be developed under a Public-Private Partnership model. He invited the Sialkot Chamber to collaborate on this venture, ensuring local involvement in the execution and success of the housing schemes.

Mr. Malik assured the full support of the Chamber towards the successful implementation of these significant projects, reinforcing the public-private partnership spirit.
