RDA Implements Housing Development Ban in Five Tehsils to Safeguard Farmland

Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has implemented a ban on the initiation of new private housing schemes within five tehsils—Rawalpindi, Gujarkhan, Taxila, Kallar Syedan, and Kahuta. This new regulation is designed to preserve the agricultural integrity of these areas, mitigate environmental impact, and promote responsible urban development strategies.

According to Zameen.Com, the enforced ban prohibits any new land acquisitions for housing purposes in the specified regions until the Pre-Urban Site Development Plan is officially approved. This forthcoming plan will classify distinct zones for agriculture, residential living, green spaces, and areas that are environmentally sensitive, ensuring that urban growth does not compromise these vital sectors.

The RDA is prepared to implement stringent penalties for non-compliance, which may include substantial fines, legal proceedings, and the demolition of properties constructed without the proper approvals. This firm stance is part of a broader strategy to balance developmental demands with the need to conserve natural resources and maintain sustainable growth.

An RDA spokesperson emphasized that the initiative is crucial for fostering an environmentally friendly approach to urban expansion, prioritizing the preservation of fertile lands and green spaces. The move is seen as central to maintaining the ecological and agricultural health of the region, setting a precedent for future developments once the zoning plan is active.
