RDA to Launch PKR 140 Million Beautification and Traffic Discipline Drive in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced a comprehensive project to beautify main roads and enhance traffic discipline with a budget of PKR 140 million. The initiative targets major areas including Kachehri Chowk, Rashid Minhas Road, Murir Hasan, Murir Chowk, Murree Road, and Faizabad, aiming to improve pedestrian safety, streamline traffic, and upgrade public spaces.

According to Zameen.Com, the project plans to introduce several structural enhancements. These include dedicated cycle tracks, modern speed breakers, and zebra crossings at crucial intersections to ensure pedestrian safety. It also encompasses the installation of special poles to mark footpaths, barriers to deter illegal road access, and reflectors to improve night visibility.

Efforts to minimize noise pollution and increase safety near educational institutions are highlighted by the introduction of no-honking zones and enhanced street lighting. Additionally, the project includes the renovation of the Moti Mahal and Committee Chowk underpasses on Murree Road, where height barriers will be implemented to regulate vehicle access.

Kanza Murtaza, RDA Director General, emphasized the project’s benefits, stating that the improved infrastructure and strict enforcement of traffic laws will lead to smoother traffic flow and reduced accidents. The project also addresses issues of sidewalk encroachments in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, ensuring clear pathways for pedestrians.

The improvements along the Saddar to Faizabad Metrobus corridor, currently underway, are also expected to significantly bolster the city’s infrastructure. Upon completion, this extensive beautification and traffic management project is poised to transform Rawalpindi into a safer and more aesthetically pleasing environment for both motorists and pedestrians.
