Kathmandu: A delegation from the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI), led by President Chandi Raj Dhakal, visited 10 Downing Street to engage in a high-level meeting with Pat McFadden, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. This meeting marked the first-ever visit by a SAARC Chamber delegation to the UK Prime Minister's Office since the organization's inception in 1992, aiming to enhance economic ties between South Asia, the UK, and the Commonwealth.

According to SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the delegation presented a strategic SAARC-Commonwealth Policy Report developed in collaboration with the Commonwealth Businesswomen's Network. This report outlines a framework focused on Connectivity, Commerce, and Creativity (3Cs) to bolster trade, investment, regional connectivity, and economic cooperation. Key proposals include a SAARC Digital Single Window for trade facilitation and a regional value-chain mapping initiative to boost intraregional trade.

Further, the report emphasizes leveraging South Asia's significant youth demographic by enhancing employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. It suggests initiatives such as a SAARC-UK Digital Skills Corps and a Remote Work Exchange Platform to foster skills development and innovation. Additionally, the potential of the South Asian and Commonwealth diaspora for economic development is explored, including mechanisms for Diaspora Direct Investment.

Chandi Raj Dhakal reiterated the importance of building economic partnerships that foster opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs, women, and youth in the region. The delegation included senior regional business leaders, highlighting the significant step in fostering dialogue and cooperation between South Asia, the UK, and the Commonwealth.
