Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives to accelerate the overhaul of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), focusing on the integration of modern technology to improve the efficiency of tax collection and increase taxpayer satisfaction. In a recent high-level meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for a supportive environment within the FBR that fosters positive interactions with taxpayers and called for a technology-driven approach to streamline operations.
According to Zameen.Com, Prime Minister Sharif also mandated a strategic reevaluation of Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) to better align with technological advancements. He highlighted the importance of adopting robust measures against smuggling and stressed the necessity for continuous training of FBR personnel to adapt to the technological enhancements.
Further reforms include a significant update to the FBR’s Active Taxpayer List (ATL), which will now be updated daily instead of weekly. This adjustment is intended to facilitate immediate recognition of compliant taxpayers, thereby fostering greater transparency and real-time tracking of compliance. The modification follows recent amendments to the Income Tax Rules, 2002, and is designed to aid taxpayers, especially those who fulfill their filing obligations post-deadline upon paying the requisite surcharge, by promptly reflecting their active status.
