Karachi: Additional IG Sindh Police, Javed Alam Odhu, announced a substantial reduction in daily incidents in Karachi, from 252 to 107. Speaking at a luncheon hosted by the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Odhu highlighted improvements in the law and order situation, including a strengthened investigation sector and a 60% detection ratio, surpassing that of the U.S.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, Odhu emphasized the ongoing efforts to enhance city safety, including the nearing completion of the Safe City project, which involves upgrading CCTV coverage in partnership with the Sindh government. This initiative aligns with global trends of reducing direct police interventions in favor of technological surveillance. Odhu also discussed the imminent expansion of the police force and the integration of modern technology in law enforcement strategies, such as the acquisition of 500 motorcycles for improved patrolling and 15 new applications equipped with modern technology.

KATI’s President, Johar Kandahari, voiced concerns over the economic and security challenges facing the city, citing the closure of over 300 industries and the loss of thousands of jobs. He stressed the need for more police personnel, noting the current inadequacy to maintain peace and manage the increasing street crime effectively. The event also addressed the critical role of community involvement in crime prevention and the significant contributions of local athletes in enhancing community pride and cohesion.
