Kohat: A notable discovery of gas condensate has been announced at the Razgir-1 exploratory well in the district of Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. This development, made by the TAL Joint Venture, marks a significant advancement in the exploration and enhancement of indigenous hydrocarbon resources in Pakistan.
According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, the well, which was initiated on January 9, 2024, successfully reached its target depth of 3950 meters. The Lumshiwal-1 zone within the well was tested and yielded a promising output of 20 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 250 barrels per day of condensate. This flow was achieved at a 40/64" choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 2348 psi.
The discovery is a collaborative effort involving multiple key players in the region's oil and gas sector. OGDCL holds a 30% working interest in the joint venture, alongside MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Co. B.V. as the operator with a 10% stake, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) with 30% and 25% stakes respectively, and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) holding the remaining 5%.
This breakthrough not only increases the hydrocarbon reserves base of the country but also opens up new avenues for further exploration within the TAL Block, indicating potential for more such discoveries in the area. The successful extraction at the Razgir-1 well has thus significantly de-risked further exploratory efforts in the block, promising new opportunities for enhancing the country’s energy security and economic growth.
