Karachi: The SITE Association of Industry has announced its support for the nationwide strike called by the trade community, scheduled for August 28, to protest against new tax impositions and high electricity tariffs.
According to S.I.T.E Association of Industry, Muhammad Kamran Arbi, President of the SITE Association, alongside Chief Coordinator Saleem Parekh, Senior Vice President Hanif Tawakkal, Vice President Farhan Ashrafi, and the entire Executive Committee, have voiced their full endorsement of the traders’ demands. The association, recognizing the significant contributions of Karachi to the national exchequer, has called for the government to address several urgent issues impacting traders and industrialists. These include the removal of newly imposed taxes on traders, shopkeepers, and the general public; an immediate reduction in electricity tariffs; the renegotiation of Independent Power Producer (IPP) contracts to favor national interests; and the provision of prompt relief to Karachi in terms of energy security, infrastructure, and law and order improvements.
The members of SITE have stressed that the demands of the traders are rational and justified, highlighting the necessity for quick governmental action to alleviate the burdens faced by the business community and the residents of Karachi.
