Lahore: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is taking steps to ensure ongoing engagement with Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) following the success of the "Made in Pakistan - SME Cluster Showcase Expo 2026." The event, which featured over 170 exhibitors from across Pakistan, provided a platform for businesses to display their products and explore opportunities for business linkages and scaling support.

According to Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority, the three-day expo drew significant interest from financial institutions, investors, and international stakeholders. The event prioritized women-led businesses and microenterprises, aiming to enhance their competitiveness and contribute to national economic goals. SMEDA officials have stated that the real impact of the expo will become evident in the coming months through structured follow-up and support in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's economic vision.

Post-event, SMEDA has launched a support mechanism to help MSMEs convert the visibility gained into sustainable business opportunities. This includes follow-up with buyers, facilitating subcontracting arrangements, and providing advisory support for enterprises with export potential. SMEDA teams will assist in product refinement, quality standards, and financial linkages to foster growth.

SMEDA is developing a three-year business plan, using data and insights from the expo to identify high-potential clusters and financing needs. Officials plan to work with chambers, trade bodies, and development partners to offer sustained guidance, especially to women and micro businesses, integrating them into value chains.

The Inception Workshop on "Bananas in Pakistan's Bio-economy: Transforming Waste into Textile," held alongside the expo, exemplified local ideas scaling into commercially viable enterprises. SMEDA intends to collaborate with partners to promote a green economy by using banana waste for textile products, offering technical support, and generating revenue for Pakistan.

Officials emphasize that the expo aims to evolve into a national platform for structured sourcing, export partnerships, and cluster development in the coming years.
