Karachi: Spotify has announced the introduction of a new label called "AI Personas" for artist identities generated by artificial intelligence. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and trust between artists and listeners by clearly indicating when an artist profile features an AI-generated identity rather than a real person.

According to Spotify, the AI Personas label will be visible on artist profiles starting mid-September. This development is part of Spotify's broader commitment to its Artist Identity & Trust initiative, which prioritizes transparency in the age of generative AI. The label will appear as a badge on relevant artist profiles, signaling to listeners that the artist's identity is AI-generated.

Spotify has outlined that AI Personas will not be included in editorial or algorithmic recommendations by default. This means that unless listeners choose to follow these AI-generated identities, they will not see them in their personalized recommendations. The platform's focus remains on promoting music from artists building genuine careers.

Artists can self-disclose their AI Persona status through Spotify for Artists, but the platform will also review and identify profiles that appear to represent AI-generated identities. Artists will be notified if the badge is applied to their profile, with the opportunity to self-disclose or appeal.

The move aligns with Spotify's earlier initiatives like Verified by Spotify, SongDNA, and AI Credits, which all aim to foster trust and transparency in the music streaming experience.
