KARACHI: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has announced plans to transform two roads in Karachi's SITE Industrial Area into Model Roads, focusing on cleanliness, efficient garbage collection, and door-to-door waste management. This initiative was declared by SSWMB Managing Director Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah during a meeting with the SITE Association of Industry.

According to S.I.T.E Association of Industry, the meeting was attended by several key figures, including President Ahmed Azeem Alvi and Chief Coordinator Saleem Parekh. The proposed Model Roads, Naurus to Dollar Road and NINA Street, will see immediate commencement of garbage collection services. Shah addressed concerns from industry members, clarifying that the Municipal Utility Charges & Taxes (MUCT) are not imposed by SSWMB and that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is not involved in the cleanup efforts in the area.

The SITE Association's President welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the SSWMB's contributions to the area and the association's ongoing Clean & Green SITE campaign. Parekh, the Chief Coordinator, assured Shah of the Association's support and emphasized the need for better coordination among stakeholders. He also stressed the importance of members paying their SSWMB bills to ensure continued service.

Former Senior Vice President Saleem Nagaria commended the SSWMB's efforts, particularly during the monsoon season, and expressed optimism about the new billing portal's potential to increase collections from the area. He elaborated on the agreement between SSWMB, SITE Limited, and the SITE Association, highlighting improvements in waste management over the past few years.
