Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway Considered for Inclusion in CPEC

Islamabad: In an ongoing effort to enhance connectivity and economic cooperation, Pakistan and China are discussing the potential inclusion of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) into the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

According to Zameen.Com, the National Highway Authority (NHA) views this addition as critical to completing the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway network. Consultations are currently underway to secure financing for the construction of the M-6, with feasibility studies slated to begin in December. The project has an estimated budget of PKR 308 billion and a projected completion timeline of 30 months.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning has expressed concerns regarding the equitable distribution of resources and safety measures for the motorway. The committee has requested a dedicated briefing on CPEC to further address these issues. Additionally, there were discussions concerning the performance of the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD), highlighting issues related to delays, budget constraints, and project management inefficiencies.
