Telenor Pakistan Expands 4G Services in Gilgit Baltistan to Boost Local Economy

Skardu: In a strategic move to enhance digital connectivity in Pakistan’s northern regions, Telenor Pakistan has launched advanced 4G internet services in Hunza and upgraded its network in Gilgit and Skardu. This development is aimed at boosting the local economy, particularly through tourism and e-commerce, by providing high-speed internet in these remote locations.

According to Telenor Pakistan, the network enhancement will significantly improve internet access in Gilgit Baltistan, a region known for its scenic beauty and burgeoning tourism sector. The improved connectivity is expected to support local businesses by facilitating the expansion of e-commerce and providing tourists with better access to online services. This initiative is part of Telenor’s commitment to bridge the digital divide and foster economic growth in less developed areas.

The launch event included a panel discussion titled “Unleashing the Power of Connectivity: Transforming the Northern Areas of Pakistan into a Digital Hub.” Keynote speakers, including Rohma Labeeb, Ahsan Maykan, and Abdul Wahab, discussed the potential impacts of enhanced connectivity on education, e-commerce, and tourism in the region. A notable success story shared at the event was from Naeem, co-founder of uConnect, who detailed how the startup has generated employment and promoted skill development in Gilgit Baltistan.

Khurrum Ashfaque, CEO of Telenor Pakistan, highlighted the importance of connectivity for regional development, especially in geographically challenging areas like Gilgit Baltistan.
